A Bean a day keeps the psychiatrist away...

Today was a bad day. And when I say bad I mean 'I must have killed a load of kittens in a past life to deserve this never-ending hell' kind of day. So I am home from work, hair standing on end in some freakish half quiff where I have been pulling it out and I decide to get on SL for a bit to relax.

Except, just now, its not quite the same. Because, due to some death-wish oompa loompa with excessive horticultural tendencies I am missing the normal dulcet tones that greet me....'ello wifey hows you chickie?'

Frankly speaking, I miss my beanie. Without her Beavie is just....well its just Evie. And laughing at some stupid joke no one else gets on your own isn't quite the same.

So why....why do we all miss her so much? Well me - she makes me laugh till I cry and sometimes just plain cry. She dedicates songs to me like 'I use to love her but I had to kill her' (still sulking). In nearly a year of fakey wedded bliss she has never failed to make time to listen to my gibberish, give fabulous advice and nip me hard when its needed.

She has an unfailing wish to just help people. She is our resident doctor, psychologist and advice line for almost any issue. The one thing she wanted to put on sim when we opened was the Beanie Booth....guess what - to offer advice on health, emotional, mental and other issues (for those who haven't yet sampled this months advice on feeling your bits to make sure they are dangling proper you are missing out!!)

And I am pretty sure just about everyone one of you folks privileged to be on her contact list feels exactly the same.

And right now she needs a little nuturing...the oompa loompa is off the christmas card list. So take a minute to drop her an offline to say you miss her.
So to sum up. Yes I am capable of feelings (stop the looks of surprise) and I adore my dorkbrain wifey. So if any of you see a furtive oompa loompa with plant food and a watering can send him in my direction. I have a rusty spoon with his name on it.

Beanie SOS

Well hello readers. Here writes a Beanie in difficulty! The oompa lumpa that took up horticulture and planted a tree in my external cable appears to of taken up squatters rights. I know he looks sinister and he is proving to be the arch nemesis of telecoms. There he is polishing his golden egg well I know its nearly Easter but he can go shove it up his...and lay it his self.

So I am making an appeal for techy types to find me a solution. There is a reward..smiles a toothy grin,

This is my predicament. I crash on Sl, like my bandwidth is being strangled by sinister oompa. Speed tests show I am getting the prescribed bandwidth but I am high on jitter and ping.

I have taken my lappy elsewhere and it works so its my Internet and phone line (that's pants too the oompa lumpa is making 0898 calls to Big Busty Brenda, I swear). I have had a new router and new filters. I have been put on a different exchange and ISP. I have had a new external cable put in too.

I have tried different viewers and logging others accounts, I still last approximately 5 minutes. So I am feeling my way round blindly on Radegast.

So any help would be gratefully received. if you could note card me I will be delighted....if you fix me.; ooh la la there is a REWARD!!!!

Above reflects the approach so far to my predicament.
Its still business as usual for the Beanie booth, the topic will change for April. I need help before then readers as Evie gagged when I made her transpose my information to note cards as I couldn't SEE.

MooCow Beeswing Celebrates her Rezz Day at the Dervish!

Friday, One Quarter French, the Frenchies, and the Honorary Frenchies, packed into the Whirling Dervish for a surprise Rezz Day party for our one and only MooCow Beeswing.

DJ Aarons Resident spun the tunes for the event that was organized by Tegan Emerald.

Wills grabs a dance with his beloved Rezz Day girl, MooCow Beeswing.

Beginning at 1 pm SLT, guests packed onto the dance floor for the party.  The sploder was popping (at one point the pot was 1,500 L) and the couples were snogging in their IMs (okay we don't have proof... but I'm sure they were!).

Rezz Day balloons littered the floor.  Guests were invited to "click and pop" and the fun began!

Gandy makes a cameo appearance as a cupcake... he almost looked good enough to eat!

Happy Rezz Day, Moo!  (And one to grow on *winks*)

"Clouded" Judgement in SL? Fix Those Rezz Issues!

While Phoenix has steadily improved and eliminated its bugs since its release after the untimely demise of our beloved Emerald, "cloud" avis still seem to be an occasional issue.

A clouded avatar does not have to mean a clouded SL future!
Worse yet, it seems that once you are a cloud in Phoenix, it can be difficult, if not impossible to fix.  I've watched people rebake, go into edit apearance, and literally log in and out after clearing cache and what not dozens of times with no resolution.

So is there a "fix" to this issue?

Yes!  If you are just unbearably clouded and nothing else has worked... it's time to resort to drastic measures.

So, as a Phoenix lover, you probably hate V2... but now is the time to download it.  Once it is on your computer, follow these steps:

1.  Log out of phoenix and log into the dreaded V2.
2.  Open your inventory and go to the "library" folder.  Once there, open the "clothing" folder, and then "initial outfits" folder.
3.  Choose ANY folder inside "initial outfits" and drop it onto your avatar.  This will revert you to a "noob" but you WILL rezz.
4.  Log back into phoenix and fix your poor avi. (Quick! Before anyone sees you!)

You've been "noobed!"  Quick! Fix it before anyone sees! (But at least you are not a cloud now...)

Now that you've resolved your "cloud" issue... it's time to move on to bigger and better things... like how to get your prim boobies to stay perky now that your avi is nearing its second rezz day... NEXT!!!

The Whirling Dervish Whirls into One Quarter French!

Saturday saw the grand opening of One Quarter French's eclectic club The Whirling Dervish with six hours of events and DJ's.  The theme was ANYTHING GOES!!! and the crowd certainly held up its end of the bargain with fabulous requests, a popping sploder (we had over 1,000L in that pot at one point!) and even a piano that was rezzed for a bit!

Daytona steals Stav's DJ booth and LAUGHS!!! (We were laughing too!)

An impromptu piano rezzing by Cameron led to lots of fun moments as the crowd grew.

Tegan Emerald hosted and dedicated songs like "Eat It" to PC!

Asdababy and Angipanji share a dance in the club.

Wendy Helstein kicks it with the crowd!

MooCow didn't miss a beat... despite the fact that Bod is
DEFINITELY looking up her skirt!

DJs & Hosts Needed for One Quarter French

Would you like to be part of our staff?  Are you chatty and friendly?  Need to earn a few Linden or just want to hang out in a historical and hopping Sim?

New Orleans, One Quarter French is looking to hire DJs and Hosts in all times zones.  We have three fabulous venues with very different styles to cater to different tastes.  As part of our staff, you will be "Sim Managed" not "Venue Managed" and we expect you to be both flexible in working with everyone, and reliable as well.  If you say you will be here... be here!

Venues:

Le Baiser Rouge:  Sexy, bluesy, Jazzy.  Burlesque.  Think red lipstick, velvet, top hats and cigars.
Cafe du Monde: A historical coffee house with an outdoor "by the water" feel.  Lighted awning, cuddle bean-bags inside and a light-hearted atmosphere.
The Whirling Dervish: Eclectic and fun, this venue will feature a wide range of music styles, including dance, pop, rock, and much more!

As a DJ we expect you to arrive at least 10 minutes before your set, we would prefer you be willing to take guest requests, and you need to be friendly and open with both staff and guests.  Support your hosts and remember that you are part of the Sim and do not just "belong" to the venue.

As a host or hostess we expect you to arrive at least 10 minutes before your time slot. We want chatty friendly people who can actively support the DJ while engaging both the newcomer and regular in local conversation.  We want flirty and/or fun hosts who rely on local chat NOT GESTURES to keep the crowd engaged.  We want you to have fun, but do not spend your time hiding in your IM box.  You are here to engage, welcome, and entertain the crowd.  Remember that you are part of the Sim and do not just "belong" to the venue.

If you are interested in filling the role of either a DJ or host please contact a New Orleans, One Quarter French Owner for an application.

Cafe du Monde ~ Coffee and Chat at Night...

A glimpse of the Cafe Du Monders late Tuesday Night.

Ultimately... the Chip Butty dream was to create a place for our friends... a glimps of that could be seen Tuesday night as the crowd gathered at the Cafe Du Monde for a late night chat and some chicory.  Friends came and go... random teleports... some on voice and some on chat.

For this blogger... I must admit... the Sim suddenly felt like "Home."

The little gathering fluctuated with the evening... but even Delvo showed, blind, bald, mute, and on iphone!

First day of Lent

Well readers today is the first day of lent, commonly known as Ash Wednesday. Lent is a period of 40 days that comes before Easter in the Christian calender. Lent for Christians is to replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days.
One Quarter French houses the beautiful Basilica of St. Louis, King of France otherwise known as St. Louis Cathedral.

If you decided today you were giving up chocolate, cigarettes, booze or anything else you decided to quit until Holy Saturday; then please feel welcome to visit the cathedral and say a prayer or two. The cathedral is a Roman Catholic church but lent is generally observed by all Christian denominations.

All faiths are welcome in One Quarter French.

Opening Night!!! ~ Ooh La La!!! and Holy Cow!!!

DJ Stavros starts the celebration!

Le Baiser Rouge was THE place to be in Second Life tonight.  The three- hour party was headed up by DJ Stavros Jolbey at 12pm SLT followed by an amazing performance at 2 pm SLT by singer Gina Gracemount.

                      It was simply... extraordinary!

Mr. and Mrs. Pirate Gutter enjoy a dance.

Not that this group of friends has ever done anything half-way... but the crowd was glittering, the stage was beautiful and the couples were swaying on the dance floor and it was MAGIC.

Me... I donned pasties and smoked a ciggy... something I would never do in Real Life.  Which is of course what made it all the more fun.

Daytona chases his tail onstage for the crowd!

Before Gina had even arrived for her show (and bless her for coming and spending her Birthday with us!!!) the sim had reached full capacity.

We were all struggling with IMs from would-be Frenchies desperate to get on Sim for a twirl in the new club.

Gina Gracemount wows the crowd with her incredible voice.
Don't worry folks... we are not a fly by night act.  Join the group and keep informed.  This is just the beginning of everything to come...

Gina Gracemount and the Strumpets fill Le Baiser Rouge stage with light, glitter, music, and bubbles!!! Ooh la la!!!

Dana Luckless dons her Burlesque Best... ooh la la!!!

Hurricane Katrina ~ We Remember ~ a Tribute

On August 23, 2005, Hurricane Katrina formed over the gulf of Mexico as a tropical depression.  She intensified to a category 5 hurricane over the gulf and by August 29 was a category 3 hurricane when she made landfall near Buras, Louisiana.

Disaster ensued as 80% of the metropolitan area of New Orleans was flooded due to breached levees, though time and cause reports are not consistent.  The fact remains, however, that Hurricane Katrina was the deadliest and most expensive hurricane in U.S. history.

As of August 2, 2006, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals stated that 1,464 people had died and 135  were missing in the aftermath of the hurricane, with most of the figure being New Orleans victims.  Damages are believed to have exceeded $100 billion, and though charities and relief organizations have been created, and billions of dollars given, little seems to have gone to the Katrina survivors.

The following website has been created by The Earth Institute at Columbia University.  It is a project made in hopes of documenting the lost lives of the Katrina disaster.

http://www.katrinalist.columbia.edu/

There is also a blog available for people to offer their thoughts, memories, and condolences for the families of the survivors and the city itself.

http://katrinalist.wordpress.com/

For more on Hurrican Katrina, environmental concerns, statistics, facts, and the information that has been made available to you in this post, please refer to the following website:

http://www.infocollective.org/katrina.html

We hope that you will join us all here in One Quarter French in remembering New Orleans and both the victims and survivors of Hurricane Katrina.  It is our dearest hope that our small thought or word of prayer might reach those hearts and create some small comfort.

The House of Blues in Real Life

In 1994, New Orleans opened the House of Blues in its famed French Quarter.  There are 298 works of folk art on the wall and it is the largest collection of folk art in the country.

The Foundation Room itself (which was the inspiration for the inside of our Second Life House of Blues) is decorated with the idea of providing a unique entertainment setting.  A combination of old Tibetan temple architecture, "Red Light" District art, and folk art make it a visit to put on your bucket list.
